Lesson 10: The Ten Commandments

PENSUM

Lesson 10: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

  • Who is the LIVING WORLD and what is the DEAD WORLD.
  • The Esotericism of the 10 Commandments.
  • The 10 Commandments within innate transcendence (from the moment we begin with our natural parents to our creative Principles).

PRACTICE: THE THREE FACTORS OF THE REVOLUTION OF CONSCIOUSNESS THE PRACTICES HAVE BEEN TAUGHT

Moses and the 10 Commandments

  • In the Bible it is said that Moses went up to Mount Sinai and God spoke to him through a burning bush.

  • Moses He was a real Master who existed. Moses means: “he who was saved from the waters”

  • The waters symbolize: The sexual actions The feelings Life and its problems

  • Mount Sinai: Symbolizes the astral plane. The mountain in esotericism always symbolizes the astral. When Moses is said to have ascended the mountain, it means that he went to the astral. The burning bush: The reed symbolizes the Tree of Life. Fire symbolizes God-Spirit.

The Tree of Life

  • The Tree of Life shows us the levels that exist in the Universe and in Man.
  • The Tree of Life has 10 Sephiroth, or levels. The first 3 correspond to the Law of 3 that creates. The next 7 correspond to the Law of 7 that organizes.
  • The 10 Commandments correspond to the 10 Sephiroth of the Tree of Life.
  • When one fulfills the 10 Commandments two things happen: He is in harmony with the Infinite (i.e. with the 10 Sephiroth). He stops generating Karma.

The ten commandments

(See “The Naked Truth”)

(1) To love God above all things and our neighbor as ourselves.

What is God?

  • To love God we must know what God is. God is within us: he is the Inner Being of each one of us.

How do we love God?

  • We must love God with deeds and not only with words: Keeping His Commandments. Doing the Father’s Work.

How do we love Him above all things?

  • To love Him above all things we must have inner work as a priority in our lives. We must fulfill all the obligations we have on the horizontal axis, but have the Inner Road as a priority.

How do we love our neighbor as ourselves?

  • Just as we have an Inner Being, which is God within us, so every man has his own Inner Being. Therefore, we must love this Divine Principle, not only in ourselves, but also in others.
  • In Kaballah The 1st Commandment relates to KETHER, because it is the Father. The 1st Commandment relates to Arcanum 1 (The Magician).

(2) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

  • God is the Word.
  • The Word creates. God creates with the Word. In ancient times initiates were forbidden to speak of the primordial disasters so as not to invoke them and cause them again.
  • When one abuses speech in any way he violates the 2nd Commandment: Lies Profanity or bad words Words that offend or hurt Gossip Slander
  • We must learn to use speech with full consciousness. When we say something we are obliged to fulfill it. In the old days there was no need for contracts, because the word of men still had power. An initiate prefers to say little, because he knows that what he says must be fulfilled.
  • It is a sin to speak when one should not, just as it is to be silent when one should speak.
  • In Kaballah The 2nd Commandment is related to CHOKMA, because it is Christ, the Word. The 2nd Commandment relates to Arcanum 2 (The Priestess).

(3) To sanctify the holidays.

What is a celebration?

  • In esotericism the celebration has two aspects:
  • (1) There are certain astronomical dates when certain energies related to the Mysteries and the Cosmic Drama are expressed on the planet. i.e. Christmas, Easter, Equinoxes, Solstices, etc. These days we must be in a state of contemplation, mysticism, reflection, etc. in order to experience the spiritual forces at work. In the age we live in, these spiritual holidays have degenerated into family holidays and usually people on these days are in the exact opposite state. For example going out to eat, drinking, staying up late and partying, etc.
  • (2) For each person, his personal celebrations are the triumphs of his Spirit and Soul. i.e.
    • When he has a moment of spiritual inspiration or understanding.
    • When he feels his Being.
    • When he is freed from an ‘I’.
    • When he has an inner experience in meditation or in the astral.
    • When he overcomes a trial.
    • When he receives an Initiation internally, etc. We must give these moments or achievements the importance and value they deserve. Not simply to just let them pass, but to keep them in our hearts and in our Consciousness like a precious treasure.
  • In Kabbalah The 3rd Commandment is related to BINAH, because it is the Holy Spirit. The 3rd Commandment relates to Arcana 3 (The Empress).

(4) To honor our Father and our Mother.

  • Externally it refers to our natural father and natural mother.
  • Internally this means honoring our Inner Father (our Being) and our Divine Mother Kundalini.
  • The Father is Wisdom and Severity. In order to honor the Father we must eliminate psychological defects.
  • The Mother is Love and Purity. In order to honor the Mother we must be pure in thought, word and deed.
  • In Kabbalah The 4th Commandment is related to CHESED, or the Being. The 4th Commandment relates to Arcanum 4 (The Emperor).

(5) You shall not kill.

  • To kill is to destroy the life that pulsates in all of nature.
  • Just as no one is capable of giving life, neither should they take it from anything or anyone. Not from a plant nor any living creature. By not killing we cooperate with the Great Universal Life.
  • We cannot take this to extremes, because one needs to eat to live. Additionally to kill the mice or cockroaches that invade one’s house if one cannot drive them away, etc.
  • One does not kill with a knife or a bullet alone. One also kills with: An ironic word Contempt Betrayal Ingratitude Slander etc. (evil look)
  • One also kills one’s life by abusing one’s body, drinking, taking drugs, overworking, etc. The 5th Commandment is related to GEBURAH, because it is the Law. The 5th Commandment relates to Arcanum 5 (The Hierarch).

(6) You shall not commit fornication.

  • This means no ejaculation in the man or orgasm in the woman. We will not say it so clearly from lesson 10 yet. We will make this clear in lesson 19A.
  • One may lose mental, emotional, motor or sexual functions. The most important are the sexual actions.
  • In Kabbalah The 6th Commandment is related to TIPHERETH, because it is the Soul. The 6th Commandment is related to Arcanum 6 (Indecisiveness).

(7) You shall not steal.

  • Theft means that someone becomes the owner of something that does not belong to him.
  • Theft can have many facets: Someone is stealing when they borrow a book and don’t return it. One steals when one takes possession of a teaching that is not one’s own, presenting it as one’s own, or changing its content. One steals a person’s honor by speaking ill of him or humiliating him.
  • Anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should not be taken, because this Universal Principle is violated and the sword of Divine Justice will fall upon us.
  • In Kabbalah The 7th Commandment relates to NETZACH, the mind. The 7th Commandment relates to Arcanum 7 (The Triumph).

(8) You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

  • It is a lie when: We pretend to gain some benefit or to be liked by others. We say something that we haven’t verified ourselves. Distort the facts or exaggerate.
  • In Kabbalah The 8th Commandment relates to HOD, the astral. The 8th Commandment relates to Arcanum 8 (Justice).

(9) You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife (or husband).

  • When a couple has sex they magnetize each other: The man is charged with the feminine energy of the woman. The woman is charged with the masculine energy of the man.
  • If one of the two unites sexually with a different partner, then a destructive mixing of energies occurs: If the man has sex with another woman, the energies of both women will be mixed in his body. If the woman has sex with another man, the energies of both men will mix in her body. Since two energies of the same polarity repel each other, this mixing is destructive to the person.
  • In Kaballah The 9th Commandment is related to YESOD, because it is sexual energy. The 9th Commandment relates to Arcanum 9 (The Hermit).

(10) You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

  • Greed is the uncontrollable desire to acquire wealth or possessions. There is a greed for things, for riches, for property, for power, etc.
  • We must use on the physical level all that we need, but without identifying with them. It is not a sin to have material goods. It is a sin to be a slave of the material.
  • In Kabbalah The 10th Commandment is related to MALKUTH, because it is the physical plane. The 10th Commandment relates to Arcanum 10 (The Reward).

Harmony with the Infinite

(See “In Aquarius, A New Exit”, chapter “Harmony with the Infinite”)

  • Since each Commandment is related to a Sephiroth of the Tree of Life, when we keep the 10 Commandments we are in harmony with the Infinite.

    (1) If we do not fulfill the first Commandment of God’s Law and consider that there are other things more important than this, if we do not go to the rites and fulfill our Lumisial obligations and devote ourselves to Psychological Death, if we consider our daily work and our social obligations more important than going to Lumicial or our community obligations, then we are out of harmony with the Father, KETHER, the First Commandment. (2) If we lie and do not love our fellow man, we are out of harmony with CHOKMAH, Christ, the Second Commandment. (3) If we do not take some time for meditation, for prayer, for contemplation, in other words, if we do not sanctify these feasts within ourselves, we are out of harmony with BINAH, the Third Commandment. (4) If we do not honor in our mind, in our feelings, in our actions the presence of the Father and the Divine Mother, we are in disharmony with the INNER, with CHESED, the Fourth Commandment. (5) If we take away life in any of its forms and use our body or abuse the physical body, violating the principles of life, then we are in disharmony with GEBURAH, the Fifth Commandment. (6) If we ejaculate with our sexual organs or with our speech, then we are out of harmony with TIPHERETH, the Sixth Commandment. (7) If we do not organize our thoughts, or fill our minds with mysticism and inspiration, or we gossip or steal, then we are out of harmony with the NETZACH, the Seventh Commandment. (8) If we base our words on lies, false testimony against someone in order to achieve something in our life, then we are in disharmony with the HOD, with the Astral body, the Eighth Commandment. (9) If, indiscriminately, we desire a woman, or a man and do not understand that this woman or man belongs to the neighbor, no matter who he is, then we are in disharmony with JESOD, the Ninth Commandment. (10) If we allow ourselves to be greedy in some way out of envy because we are not satisfied with what God has given us, then we are out of harmony with MALKUTH, the Tenth Commandment.

Guided Practice: “Harmony with the Infinite”

  • At the end of the lesson we will do a short guided practice:
    • We first take some deep breaths, relax, clear the mind, etc.
    • We center in the heart and ask our Being and our Divine Mother to help us be in harmony with the infinite.
    • Then we meditate on how each commandment brings us into harmony with each Sefirot.
    • By loving God above all things and our neighbor as ourselves we are in harmony with the Father.
    • By using the word rightly we are in harmony with the Son.
    • Experiencing the feasts of the Spirit through meditation, prayer, etc. we are in harmony with the Holy Spirit.
    • Finally, we will say 3 times: “I am in harmony with God.” I am in harmony with Life. I am in harmony with Love. I am in harmony with Peace.
    • The practice will last about 15-20 minutes.

Second Chamber Information

Just for our own understanding, not to meet in the First Chamber.

The Orders of the Initiates

  • There are two other orders that apply only to Initiates:

(11) Do your duty.

(11) Honor the gods.

  • V.M. Lakhsmi has given a different version of the 11th Commandment as: “Honor the gods”.
  • The gods are the Masters, the Self-Realized Beings.

(12) Let your light shine.

  • This light is the Essence.
  • It means to dissolve the ‘I’ so that the trapped Essence is released and shines forth.
