Bridge Lesson: The Magical Power of Prayer

The Prayer

  • Praying is the art of consciously conversing with God.
  • Mysticism is a person’s disposition to converse, meditate, and have experiences with the spiritual principles of creation, to which many people give the name “GOD.”
  • Mysticism is a science that cannot be taught, but is something that each person must learn to develop within themselves, opening their hearts and realizing the higher powers of creation.

The 7 Basic Aspects of Prayer

(See “The Magical Power of Prayer”, chapter 2)

  1. Know exactly what to ask for: Hierarchies know what we need, but they always respect our free will. We, as humans, have the right to ask. Then the hierarchies see if we deserve it so they can give it to us.
  2. Know who to ask from Since each Hierarchy has a specific specialty, we need to know which one to ask for everything we need.
  3. Love To receive help from the Hierarchies we must deserve it. That is, we must have given something in order to be entitled to receive. Therefore, it is essential in our prayers to ask for help, not only for ourselves, but also for others.
  4. Faith Faith is the certainty that something will be done. We must pray without doubt, otherwise we ourselves close the door from which help is to come. When a request is granted to us, then it is fulfilled directly in the higher worlds, although it may take some “time” to appear on the physical plane.
  5. Consciousness It is necessary when we pray to be in a third state of consciousness: in self-consciousness. If one prays without being conscious, there is no connection with one’s being and with the higher worlds to “elevate” their supplications to the Hierarchies.
  6. Mysticism Mysticism is the disposition to converse with God. We can have this mood anywhere. It is not necessary to be in a Temple or a holy place to pray. Favourable conditions are useful and we seek them whenever we can, but we do not depend on them to get in touch with God
  7. Concentration - Deepening Concentration allows us to direct all our attention and energy towards one place. In this case, the object of the meeting is what we ask for in prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

(See “Esoteric Thesis on Hermetic Astrology”, chapter “Leo”) (See “Tarot and Kabbalah, Part 2, “Arcano 1”) (See “Handbook on Theurgy”, chapter IV)

  • The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer with immense power.
  • We say it at the beginning of every activity of the Second Chamber.
  • We say it in contemporary English for two reasons: So that everyone understands the meaning of each phrase. So that the associations do not interfere when we were made to say it mechanically at school, in church, etc.
  • When praying, one must do so consciously, meditating deeply on the meaning of each sentence and each word. Normally, a meditation on the Lord’s Prayer should last just over an hour.

Our Father who art in heaven

  • Each person has his own inner Father. But we say: “our” Father, because all Beings are essentially ONE: the Eternal Common Cosmic Father.
  • Heaven is: The higher dimensions of the Universe. The higher states of Consciousness.

Hallowed be Your Name

  • The Father is the Sound-Vibration.
  • Every person’s Being has its own eternal inner Name which expresses its qualities and temperament. e.g. Samael” is the inner Name of the V.M. Samael Aun Weor.
  • All Beings together constitute the Army of Logos, the Army of the Voice.

Thy Kingdom Come

  • The kingdom of God is the Conscious Cycle of Solar Humanity. It is the state of consciousness in which the great Masters find themselves. It is a state of peace, harmony, bliss, love, wisdom, justice, etc.
  • In order for these qualities to be expressed in the world, each of us must first establish the kingdom of God within ourselves, as an inner state.

Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven

  • In the spiritual worlds (in heaven) God’s will is fulfilled.
  • But because the physical plane (the earth) is many levels below and governed by more laws, His will is often not fulfilled there.
  • For God’s will to be done on earth, we must sacrifice our personal will and do what our Being tells us.

Give us today our daily bread

  • Bread symbolises: On the physical plane, our material needs. On the inner level, the nourishment of the Soul: the teachings and understanding.
  • “daily” means that every day you must: Seek this nourishment for our Soul by meditating on the events of life and on the Teachings. Ask our inner Father to give us the grace to increase our understanding.

Forgive our depts as we forgive our deptors.

  • Our depts are the karmic debts we have acquired from all the times we have violated God’s Laws in this life and in our past lives.
  • If we do not forgive our deptors, those who have harmed us, we cannot have the right to be forgiven. “Only he who forgives has the right to be forgiven”

Don’t let us fall into temptation and deliver us from evil

  • Temptation is the situation in which the “ego” wants to react and manifest.

  • It would not be right to ask God not to tempt us, as stated in many incorrect translations of the Our Father, since temptation is necessary in inner work to develop Will and Conscience.

Temptation is fire, and triumph over temptation is light.”

The right thing to do is to ask God to help us triumph over temptation.

Amen, amen, amen

Suggested Practice: Meditation on the Our Father

  • At the end of the lesson we will do:
    • Rune FA.
    • A guided meditation practice with the Lord’s Prayer.
  • First we do Rune FA all together 3 times, repeating the prayer and mantras: FA, FE, FI, FO, FU.
  • Then we sit down for the meditation practice.
    • We take a few deep breaths, relax, empty the mind, etc.
    • We concentrate in the heart and ask our Being and the Divine Mother to awaken in us the deepest feelings of mysticism, faith and devotion.
    • We meditate on every single phrase of Our Father.
    • We remain in silence and peace for a while.
    • The practice will last about 30 minutes (without the Rune).
